About A Sense of Thyme
How could such sweet and wholesome hours
Be reckoned but with herbs and flowers?
- Andrew Marvel (1621-1678)
When Ron and I moved to the country north of Lexington, MI in 2003 we built a small greenhouse, designed by Ron, that first fall and started growing again. Our name 'A Sense of Thyme' was originally the name of the herbal gift (and plant) shop that I had with my friend Rose for several years in Troy, MI. I have been growing herbs most of my life in Michigan. In this website I will share information on herb growing, gardening and using. With an emphasis on growing in Michigan's changeable climate.
I grow a large selection of herbs and vegetables that we sell primarily at the local Farmer's/Flea Market in nearby Croswell, MI. Some of my herbs are also available in Lexington at B.R. Noble during the spring planting season. This year they will also be available at the Herb Shoppe in Millington, MI. We are not open for direct retail sales on a regular basis at this time. So please give us a call or send an email if you would like to schedule a visit. I love to talk about herbs and gardening and give tours of our gardens.
While we are not 'certified' organic, we grow our plants using organic methods and do not knowingly use any seed that has been genetically engineered or GMO modified. Organic meaning that organically grown seed is used whenever obtainable, and grown without the use of chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. We also believe in using sustainable agricultural practices. And, each year I save more varieties of my own seed to grow from.
